Welcome to The Elder Beat

Getting older in the community you love shouldn’t mean navigating a maze of information alone. That’s why we created The Elder Beat — and we’re so glad you found us.

Whether you’re looking for ways to stay in your own home longer, find a ride to a medical appointment, or simply connect with others in your community, you’re in the right place. We’ll be here regularly with local guides, resources, and information covering everything from in-home care and healthcare to social activities, assisted living, and hospice support.
Bookmark this page, share it with a friend or family member, and come back often. We’re just getting started — and we’d love for you to grow with us.
Welcome to the community. We’re glad you’re here.

Does anyone know of a local CPA/financial planner they would recommend?

Thank your for your comment. I’m The Elder Beat moderator and I’d like to acknowledge how hard it can be to find trusted financial advisors. My husband and I went through that last year when we set up a trust. I don’t have a referral to offer you for a CPA, but maybe another Elder Beat reader will reply with one.

In the meantime, here are two ideas:
    1) Check the Oregon Society of CPAs website. They have a Find-a-CPA Directory that allows you to search for licensed professionals in your area and the particular service you’re looking for: https://www.orcpa.org/find-a-cpa
    2) Before hiring someone, check their credentials using the Oregon Board of Accountancy Licensee Lookup to ensure their license is active and free of disciplinary actions: https://www.oregon.gov/boa/pages/licensee-lookup.aspx

This is such an important topic! We will research it further and possibly add a blog post to The Elder Beat on this topic in the near future.

Thank you again for reaching out.
